English Language Development
ELD (English Language Development) classes are offered to Beacon Heights students whose primary home language is other than English. Students receive explicit English Language instruction for eventual mastery of academic language and long-term access to core curriculum. Students receive 45 minutes of instruction each day focused on language itself, including forms and functions and vocabulary development through reading, writing, speaking and listening. Students are grouped by English Language Proficiency Level. They are pulled out of their general education classrooms and work with a certified teacher who has an ESL endorsement.
