Music

The Music Program at Beacon Heights:

Beacon Heights provides music for students in kindergarten through sixth grade.  The SLCSD provides three teachers who teach the 4th, 5th and 6th grade music classes:  Michelle Misco, Leland Watson and Audrey Hill. Music classes are part of the state curriculum, and provide students with a variety of musical experiences throughout the year.  Our kindergarten through third grade experience music with Mrs. Allison Dale.  Our k-3 music is provided by a generous grant from the R. Harold Burton Foundation.

K-3 meet once a week for 45 minutes.  4th grade music meets once a week for 30 minutes. These classes focus on the musical basics of beat, meter, notation and performing on a variety of instruments including recorder, Orff instruments and percussion. The students also learn to match pitch with their voices and sing in class. They perform at least twice a year for students and parents.

The 5th and 6th grade students meet twice a week for 40 minutes. They have the choice to be in general music, band or orchestra class. The district does provide some instruments, which allows students to play an instrument regardless of income. Students learn about music notation, terminology, different styles of music, as well as how to play or sing as a group. They will perform at least twice each year for students and parents. This program will prepare students to continue to play or sing at the middle school level.
